Has anyone out here in LJ land actually read Twilight? I'm just curious, because every single thing I read about it, including things that are supposed to be recommendations, make me want to run away screaming. Someone who liked this book explain to me why you enjoy reading a 2-d Mary Sue self-insert. And yes, guilty pleasure is a valid answer, though I can't say anything in this book would be listed in my 'guilty pleasure' categories.

Not criticising anyone who likes the books, I'm sure there are plenty of things I like that others think are crap. Just trying to understand the appeal.

I have to admit, I'm more amused by all of this than anything. There's actually at least one community (strike_2008, which had things like goatse posted earlier, so I'm not linking to it now) now dedicated to nothing more than posting all day today, and I believe they're trying to hit over 9000 posts. (Actually, so is

statements, and I believe that as of about 3am CDT, they're over 3,000) Amusingly enough, I think that between the people who are posting because they don't agree with the boycott and the people who don't know/don't care, there's actually going to be more posts than usual today.

Oh, and it was also pointed out on another journal I read that LJ statistics are tabulated weekly, not daily. And with all the extra posting that has happened to talk about the boycott, a shortage of posts today isn't going to show up at all. Not that I think that means people shouldn't, if they really feel it's important to them, just that they shouldn't be surprised if it doesn't make a difference.

There have been a few interesting posts about LJ and the current situation, so I thought I'd pass them along so people can read and make their own conclusions.

A simple look at the TOS - I have to admit I agree with the sentiments expressed in this post, so if you don't agree with me, you're probably not going to agree with her.

Anton Nossik, the man who was interviewed in the post that people are irritated about, explains his statements

And in a disturbing turn of events, there are those who are using the outrage and boycott for their own anti-semitic reasons. Whether you support the boycott or not, I encourage everyone to consider who they're being seen standing with, and whether that's company they're comfortable with.

I have a headache and I'm tired, so I'm not even going to try to be nice about saying this.

I'm not leaving LJ. I'm probably going to make a point to post on friday, just because of that stupid boycott that everyone and their brother seems to feel the need to post about, as if LJ was killing their grandmother instead of changing a few rules on a site *they* own, and most of the people complaining *don't even pay for*.

If you don't like their changes, leave. It's the only way you can tell them you're unhappy. If all of fandom up and leaves (which won't happen, btw, they love the drama *way* too much to leave it behind), there will still be thousands of users who not only aren't part of fandom, they wouldn't care even if they do know. The gaming circles and such that I've been floating in haven't even mentioned this latest uproar. This isn't going to hurt LJ, no matter what fandom wants to think. We're a small userbase, and there are always more people out there.

I know I seem to be the only one holding this opinion, and I've probably pissed a few people off, but if everyone else can post their outrage, so can I.

No, the customer isn't always right. Especially when all the customer can do is bitch and moan about everything.

Having a wonderful time in Cali with Bonnie, as always. Yaoi con was tons of fun, and full of gorgeous boys. I spent waaay too much money, of course, but hey, it only comes once a year!

Today we're off to spend some time in San Jose at the museums, and hopefully the Japanese Friendship gardens if the weather holds out for us.
